Norway’s foreign minister said her country is not violating the Svalbard treaty by blocking the passage of Russian goods

Norwegian Foreign Minister Anneken Hötfeldt said the country is not deliberately trying to prevent Russia from moving goods to the island, and this decision is dictated by the anti-Russian sanctions of the West.

And the minister considered that “the actions of Norway do not violate the Svalbard Treaty.”

On June 28, Norway denied Russia the passage of goods to Russian settlements on the Svalbard archipelago through the only checkpoint on the Russian-Norwegian border “Storskog”.

Russian Consul General in Svalbard Sergei Goshin, commenting on Norway’s refusal to let goods into Russian settlements, noted that the Norwegian authorities had not thought through all the consequences of this step.
