North Korea announces spy satellite experiment

North Korea announced at dawn on Monday that it had conducted a major spy satellite experiment on Sunday, which it aims to complete by April 2023.

The Korea Central News Agency (KCNA) said the test was carried out at the Sohae space station on Sunday to “evaluate the capabilities of the satellite imagery, data transmission system and ground control system.”

An unnamed official from the National Aerospace Development Administration said: “Pyongyang launched rockets with an experimental satellite at a high angle at an altitude of 500 km.”

“By April 2023, North Korea will complete its first military reconnaissance satellite,” the official added.

On Sunday, South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said it had detected the launch of two Intermediate-Range Ballistic Missiles (IRBMs) in the East Sea from Chungchang-ri in North Pyongan province, northwest of the country, towards the East Sea, also called the North Sea. .

For its part, the Japanese Ministry of Defense said that the two missiles flew about 500 km, at a maximum altitude of about 550 km.
