Nightclub owner arrested in Thailand after wildfire kills 15

Thai police have arrested the owner of a nightclub where a fire broke out that killed 15 people near the tourist city of Pattaya, southeast of Bangkok.

The fire broke out around 1 a.m. Friday at the Mountain Bay nightclub in Sattahip, about 150 kilometers southeast of the capital Bangkok.

On Saturday, the death toll rose to 15, according to the aid organization, and most of the bodies were found abandoned near the entrance to a nightclub and in rest homes with severe burns.

And a Shanburi County police officer confirmed Sunday that nightclub owner Pungsiri Banprenseng turned himself in to police after a warrant for his arrest was issued.

“He is under arrest and police will seek court approval on Monday to continue his arrest throughout the investigation,” the official said, noting that the 27-year-old “will be prosecuted for negligent homicide and lack of a license.” . sell drinks.

The law provides for a maximum penalty of up to 10 years in prison and a €550 fine for anyone convicted of negligent homicide.

The fire broke out faster because of the soundproof foam on the walls of the building. It took firefighters more than three hours to put out the fire.
