Candidate for British Prime Minister, Foreign Secretary Liz Truss said that the UK should not repeat its “mistakes” with Russia in relations with China.
“In my opinion, we should not repeat the mistakes that we made with Russia when we became strategically dependent on her,” Truss said during a debate with another candidate for prime minister, former finance minister Rishi Sunak.
She added: “We must learn from the mistakes that Europe made in its relations with Russia when it became dependent on oil and gas from it. We must not allow the same to happen with China.”
It is noteworthy that Truss and Sunak reached the final stage of the competition for the leadership of the Conservative Party and Prime Minister of Great Britain after the resignation of Boris Johnson on July 7.
A new British Prime Minister is expected to be elected in September.
