Newspaper: Postponement of voting in the election of the British Prime Minister due to the risk of hacking

British newspaper The Telegraph reported that a mail-in vote to elect a new prime minister had been delayed due to the risk of electronic hacking.

The newspaper pointed out that the Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ), which is responsible for the information protection of the government and the military, warned about the possibility of hacker penetration into the voting process, due to which the voting was postponed.

Members of the Conservative Party have not yet received ballot papers by mail.

The newspaper added that the Conservative Party had to cancel initial plans that would have allowed voters to change their choice during the vote.

The newspaper said the plan was to leave room for hackers to interfere with the vote and change its results.

Under the new system, party members will not be able to re-vote, as each member will have a special digital code that will be canceled after the vote.

It is noteworthy that in the final stage of the election of the new leader of the Conservative Party, who will take the post of prime minister, there will be a competition between Foreign Minister Liz Terrace and former Finance Minister Rishi Sunak.
