Newspaper: Japan plans to expel Russian diplomat in retaliation for the expulsion of its consul

The Yomiuri newspaper reported that the Japanese government plans to expel a Russian diplomat in response to the expulsion of the Japanese consul from the Russian city of Vladivostok.

The newspaper indicated that this issue is now being worked out, and the Russian side will be informed of Tokyo’s decision in the near future.

The consular officer is expected to be expelled.

On September 26, the FSB announced the arrest of the Japanese consul in Vladivostok, Motoka Tatsunori, after receiving classified information for money.

The Russian side protested Tokyo on this occasion and declared the Japanese consul persona non grata.
