Newspaper: German authorities expect winter emergencies due to gas shortage

The German newspaper Bild reported that the German authorities expect that the shortage of gas next winter in the country will lead to emergencies in some areas, and that the gas problem will persist until 2024.

The authorities expect that, in turn, this will lead to a threefold increase in gas prices.

According to the newspaper, the head of the German Chancellor’s administration, Wolfgang Schmidt, last Thursday held a meeting with the participation of heads of state departments, at which the gas crisis was discussed. The newspaper claims that it has become aware of the details of the negotiations.

She added: “The federal government expects an emergency in the regions next winter. The federal government also expects gas prices to double or triple, without the state being able to fully mitigate price hikes that will hit citizens’ pockets.”

Yesterday, Sunday, the head of the Federal Network Agency, Klaus Müller, said that the level of gas storage in underground gas fields in Germany is insufficient, and it will be difficult to survive the next winter without Russian gas.
