Newspaper: Establishment of a holding company in Germany to nationalize Gazprom Germania

The Welt am Sonntag newspaper reported that the German government had secretly set up a holding company to oversee the activities of SEFE, which was formerly a subsidiary of Gazprom Germania GmbH.

According to the publication, the holding will bear the same name: on June 3, VERONIKA Zweiunddreizigste Vermögensverwaltungsgesellschaft was renamed Securing Energy for Europe Holding GmbH.

The newspaper quotes the founding documents of the holding: “The company’s goal is to ensure continuity of supply in the energy sector.”

For its part, the German Ministry of Economy confirmed to the newspaper that it was aware of the creation of a new holding. A source in the ministry stated: “All this was prepared in May 2022 solely as a precautionary measure for any restructuring measures.”

Last May, the Russian government released a list of 31 companies subject to retaliatory sanctions. Among them is Gazprom Germania GmbH (since March 31, no longer associated with Gazprom).
