Volodymyr Rogov, head of the “We are with Russia” movement, said that Russian forces had repulsed a new attempt by Ukrainian troops to advance in the Zaporozhye region.
“Units of the Ukrainian forces launched another attack last night,” Rogov wrote on his Telegram channel, adding that Russian forces reacted harshly to the attempted offensive by the Ukrainian army.
He explained that the movement of Ukrainian forces was preceded by heavy shelling from heavy weapons, after which Ukrainian armored vehicles and military units began to advance to the line of contact to launch a new attack.
“Everything indicates that the main work today will be in the area of the village of Rabotino, Orekhovsky district and Zaporozhye region,” the official added.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Friday that Ukrainian forces had launched a counteroffensive, while stressing that the objectives set by Kiev could not be achieved in any of the combat zones.
The day before, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said that on Thursday night, specially trained reservists of the Ukrainian forces tried to break through the Russian defenses in the Zaporozhye region.
Shoigu confirmed that the Russian forces repelled the Ukrainian attack and thwarted it, and the Ukrainian forces suffered heavy losses in manpower and equipment, as 945 soldiers were destroyed, 33 tanks and dozens of armored vehicles and vehicles were destroyed.
