New Chinese Ambassador Arrives in the United States

China’s Foreign Ministry said Xie Feng, China’s new ambassador to Washington, arrived at New York airport yesterday, five months after his predecessor Qin Gang was named foreign minister.

The Chinese ministry, in a report posted on its website, quoted the new ambassador as saying, “Currently, Sino-US relations are facing serious difficulties and challenges. My colleagues and I will move forward, and despite the difficulties, we will fulfill our duty to the end and fulfill our mission with honor.”

Since July 2021, Qin Gang has been the Chinese Ambassador to Washington. At the end of December 2022, he was appointed head of the Chinese Foreign Ministry. Since then, China has not sent a new head of its diplomatic mission to the United States.
