NATO invites Sweden and Finland to join its work

The NATO Secretary General said that Sweden and Finland can now participate in the work of the alliance from July 5 as invited countries to its membership.

The NATO Secretary General said that this is a “historic day” for two countries with which we share common values ​​and challenges, and we are facing a “historic danger”.

Stoltenberg also expressed his conviction that all member states will accelerate procedures to ensure the completion of the membership of Finland and Sweden, noting that the alliance will be stronger and Europe more stable.

For his part, the Finnish Foreign Minister said that his country is waiting for the full approval of membership in the alliance, and these procedures have already begun.

The accession protocol for Finland and Sweden, which was signed today, requires ratification by the parliaments of 30 NATO countries.
