Moscow urges UN High Commissioner for Human Rights to respond to RT France blocking

The Russian mission to the UN in Geneva has asked the office of UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet to respond to the blocking of the Russian channel RT France by the European Union.

The Russian mission turned to the UN with a request “to study and respond to this clear example of a flagrant violation of freedom of speech that took place in holy Europe.”

And in her letter, she said that “Europe, which claims to be a stronghold of freedoms and democracy, takes a selective position in relation to the realization of fundamental human rights, especially in relation to the right to expression and access to information.”

The Court of Justice of the European Union rejected the appeal of RT France against the decision of the European Union to impose sanctions on a number of Russian media outlets, including RT.

The European Union blocked a number of Russian media outlets in early March amid the Russian military operation in Ukraine.
