Moscow: Ukrainian dirty bomb case still pending

Russia’s Permanent Representative to International Organizations in Vienna, Mikhail Ulyanov, said that the case of the Ukrainian “dirty bomb” had not yet been closed.

In an interview with Rossiya 24 on Friday, Ulyanov said: “In fact, only an initial survey was carried out, and at the same time the environment was surveyed, as the International Atomic Energy Agency always does, and now it will be analyzed in authorized laboratories, after which it will be issued the final decision, but already in relation to three sites visited by IAEA inspectors.

He continued: “So the file was not closed. Most importantly, we have sent a strong proactive signal, and I hope it will be useful.”

He explained: “Our data indicate that Kyiv is seriously considering the possibility of creating a “dirty bomb” and is taking practical steps.”

He added that he currently does not have information about any additional Russian steps in this area, adding that Moscow would probably prefer to “wait for a while.”

The Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency passed a resolution on Thursday confirming that IAEA inspectors “found no evidence of undeclared nuclear activity or material related to the development of a dirty bomb in Ukraine.”
