Moscow: The goal of our military operation is to protect human rights in Ukraine

Deputy Russian representative to the UN Dmitry Polyansky confirmed that Russia never intended to destroy Ukraine and that the purpose of its military operation is to protect human rights in Ukraine.

In an interview with the British radio LBC, he said: “We never said that we want to exclude Ukraine from existence, and our goal was to protect human rights in this country in the same way that human rights are protected in other countries.”

Notably, Russia launched its military operation in Ukraine on February 24 last year, after NATO rejected a security demand document for the return of NATO forces and infrastructure in Ukraine and other countries to the 1997 borders.

After the West refused Russia’s requests for security guarantees, Moscow launched a military operation and proclaimed three of its goals: to protect the population of Donbass in eastern Ukraine from the bombing of Kyiv forces, which, with the support of the West, tried to re-annex the region that broke away from Ukraine, to eradicate Nazism in Ukraine and disarm Kyiv forces Ukraine’s declaration of neutrality and non-alignment with any military alliances, including NATO.
