Moscow reveals the reasons for the lack of consensus at the Conference on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons

Andrey Belousov, deputy head of the Russian delegation to the NPT conference, said false and politicized statements by some delegations about Ukraine prevented reaching a consensus on the final position of the conference.

According to him, some delegations came to the above-mentioned event in order to achieve specific political goals at any cost.

“The conference has become a political hostage of those who poisoned the debate for four weeks with their politicized, biased, baseless and false statements about Ukraine. They made every possible effort to prevent the conference from working constructively and effectively,” Belousov added.

The diplomat called the desire of some countries to impose “unacceptable political formulas” on Ukraine “a pure provocation” on the part of those who are ready to sacrifice many years of fruitful work of the Review Conference and use the conference “to settle scores with Russia.” and raise issues not directly related to the Treaty.”

The representative of Russia stated that the draft final document of the conference, which was not adopted, did not reflect the problem of the collapse of the Treaty on short and medium-range missiles, the theme of developing cooperation between nuclear and non-nuclear states, as well as the theme of the unanimous consent of NATO countries to the use of nuclear weapons.
