"Moody’s": Belarus defaulted on external debt

The international rating agency Moody’s announced the default of Belarus on its external debt.

And the agency said in a statement on Thursday that the loan was due to expire, during which Belarus had to repay $22.9 million for ten-year European bonds.

She explained that the Ministry of Finance of Belarus repaid the debt in the national currency, and investors in Belarusian bonds could not receive their income.

“The repayment of the debt in Belarusian rubles represents a delay in repayment of the debt,” she added.

The government of Belarus decided in June last year to pay off debts in Belarusian rubles through Belarusbank.
