Moldova fulfills its first obligation after receiving the status "candidate" to the European Union

The speaker of the Moldovan parliament, Igor Grosso, said that the status of an EU candidate obliges Chisinau to support new EU sanctions against Russia.

President of the European Council Charles Michel said at a summit in Brussels yesterday, Thursday, June 24, that the heads of state and government of the European Union agreed to provide Ukraine and Moldova with clarifications on candidates for joining the union.

“Moldova will be in solidarity with the European Union, and our European position and aspirations oblige us to join the sanctions against Russia, as they are designed to stop hostilities, kill people and sit down at the negotiating table, and we want to achieve this. by all possible diplomatic means,” Grosso added.

The Speaker of the Parliament stated that Moldova also wants to establish good relations with Russia and wants to trade with it on the basis of mutual respect.

Western countries have imposed several packages of sanctions against Russia in connection with the Russian special military operation in Ukraine. Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the policy of countering and weakening Russia is a long-term strategy pursued by the West, and the sanctions have dealt a serious blow to the entire global economy.

According to him, the main goal of the West is to worsen the lives of millions of people, while the US and the EU are effectively bankrupt in relation to Russia, freezing their gold and foreign exchange reserves, as current events mark the end of the global hegemony of the West. both in politics and economics.
