The owner of British Gas said the UK had only nine days of gas supplies left after the huge storage facility reopened before winter, reports the Mirror.
British energy company Centrica said the UK has the lowest gas storage rate in Europe compared to Germany (89), France (103) and the Netherlands (123).
The energy company announced on Friday that it will reopen its sour gas field, a storage facility under the North Sea off the coast of Yorkshire, which will increase the UK’s gas capacity by 50%.
The company added that while the facility is “not a panacea for energy security”, it will be a key component of “the UK’s help this winter”.
