Minsk: Belarus will not renounce the status of a nuclear-free country

The delegate of Belarus at the conference of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons at the UN stressed that Minsk would not renounce its status as a country free of nuclear weapons.

“All the insinuations about Belarus’ desire to change its status as a nuclear-free state and its non-compliance with its obligations under the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons have no basis,” he said.

He stressed that Belarus has made a conscious choice in favor of refusing to acquire nuclear weapons and does not intend to change its position, despite the escalation of the arms race.
