Ibrahim Ashmawy, head of the Internal Trade Development Authority and Egypt’s assistant minister of supply, commented on the possibility that the Sudanese crisis will affect Egypt’s meat imports, and therefore a shortage in supply and rising prices.
In a telephone interview with Al-Hekaya, Ibrahim Ashmawi explained that Egypt’s meat imports would not be affected by the Sudanese war, as there are large contracts and safe reserves, in addition to the country’s 5,000 head of livestock. slaughterhouses.
He pointed out that the government is insured against crises, as it has learned from the Russian-Ukrainian crisis, and that meat supplies to Egypt will come from more than one source, explaining that the government is exploring the possibility of importing meat from more than one African country. countries such as Somalia and Chad, in addition to other countries.
He added that the state intervenes to control the rhythm of the market and ensure the availability of goods, since it is important that goods are present in the markets.
