Mexican President Andres Manuel López Obrador said he told his US counterpart Joe Biden that WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange did not commit a serious crime.
When asked at a morning press conference at the National Palace if he had discussed the WikiLeaks founder case with Biden during their meeting at the White House, López Obrador said he passed on the message to him.
The Mexican President indicated that in his message “he made it clear to Biden that the Australian journalist Julian Assange did not commit a serious crime, did not kill anyone and did not violate any human rights, therefore his arrest is permanent.” an insult to freedom of speech and people, and that this is how Mexico perceives the Assange case.”
He reaffirmed Mexico’s protection and Assange’s asylum, but noted that the US government had not yet responded.
