Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said the only way forward in negotiations in the Russia-Ukraine conflict is to “balance the two sides on the battlefield.”
“If you don’t want me to say that peace is achieved by capitulation, it is achieved by continuing to support Ukraine, allowing it to defend itself,” the center-right prime minister added in his speech to the Senate on Wednesday.
“I don’t know if anyone thinks I’m enjoying the war,” Meloni said after the opposition Five Star Movement reiterated its refusal to vote in the future for new weapons for Ukraine.
And she continued: “No, of course not, I hope, and we as a government will do everything in our power to achieve a just world.”
She added: “We need to figure out how to achieve peace without waving rainbow flags in demonstrations.”
