Medvedev proposes dual currency use for trade between Russia and Vietnam

Russia and Vietnam intend to discuss the use of two national currencies in bilateral trade exchange, as well as to launch the Russian Mir electronic payment system in Vietnam to serve tourism and financial transactions between the two countries.

The office of Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev said that the restrictions imposed by the West on Russia caused many difficulties in banking payment transactions, disrupted transport chains and logistics services, as a result, trade between the two countries decreased. last year by more than a third, after years of growth.

He added: “We are ready to discuss the use of two national currencies in trade and exchange transactions, payment for the cost of goods and services, as well as withdrawing money in Vietnam using Russian Mir cards.

He pointed out that during the talks that Medvedev will hold with the Vietnamese leadership, special attention will be paid to the resumption of direct and regular flights between Russia and Vietnam.

He clarified that the flight will be opened from the airport of the Russian city of Irkutsk to the airport of Hanoi on board the Air Aero airline from June 4 next year.

Russian companies have also shown interest in participating in the construction and modernization of Vietnam’s railway infrastructure and in a number of other industries.

The department emphasized that special attention is paid to mutual cooperation in the fuel and energy sector, including the activities of leading Russian economists in Vietnam in the energy sector represented by PJSC Gazprom, JSC Zarubezhneft, PJSC NOVATEK, as well as the construction of a power plant in Vietnam.

He noted that a separate aspect of these projects is joint steps within the framework of the project to create a nuclear science and technology center in Vietnam, as well as the possibility of signing a contract for the creation of a nuclear science and technology center in the Vietnamese province of Dong Nai by Rosatom and the Vietnam Institute of Atomic Energy in June, where the site for the construction of the center was selected, its design and source of financing were determined, and the preliminary feasibility study of the project was approved.

And Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev arrived this morning on a working visit to Vietnam, where he will hold a series of meetings with the Vietnamese leadership on Monday, May 22.

Medvedev will also meet with Vietnamese President Phu Van Tuong and Prime Minister Pham Minh Tinh.
