Iranian authorities have arrested Farida Muradkhani, the niece of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, after she recorded a video clip calling the authorities led by her uncle a “criminal regime and child killer.”

Her brother, Mahmoud Moradkhani, tweeted that she was arrested on Wednesday after she applied to the prosecutor’s office based on her subpoena to appear at the Tehran prosecutor’s office.

Afterwards, her brother posted a video of his sister on YouTube condemning the “overt and overt repression” against Iranians, criticizing the inaction of the international community, and urging foreign governments to cut all ties with Tehran due to the authorities’ brutal crackdown. about mass protests caused by the death of a young woman while in police custody.

A statement in a video clip by engineer Farida, whose father was a prominent opposition figure and married to Khamenei’s sister, went viral on the Internet after the human rights news agency Grana reported her detention on 23 November.

Farida said in the video, “Oh free people, support us and tell your governments to stop supporting this bloody regime that kills children. This regime is not loyal to any of its religious principles and does not know any rules other than strength and clinging to. The time has come for all free and democratic countries to call their representatives from Iran as a symbolic gesture and expel representatives of this cruel regime from their lands.

According to the Grana news agency, as of November 26, during the protests lasting more than two months, 450 protesters, including 63 minors, were killed, 60 members of the security forces were killed, and the authorities arrested 18,173 people. protesters.

Farida Maradkhani, daughter of Badri, Khamenei’s sister, who fell out with her family in the 1980s and fled to Iraq at the height of the war between the two countries, joined her husband, opposition cleric Ali Tehrani, born Ali Maradhani Arangeh.

Moradhani rose to prominence as an anti-death penalty activist and was previously arrested in January of this year following an October 2021 video conference in which she paid tribute to Farah Dib, the widow of Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, who was overthrown by the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
