For the first time since the beginning of the Russian special operation in Ukraine, the UK is exploring the possibility of supplying Kyiv with Challenger 2 tanks.
And Sky News, citing an unnamed source, said that “negotiations have been underway for several weeks” “on the supply of a number of main battle tanks of the British army Challenger 2 to the armed forces of Ukraine.”
According to the same source, the UK can provide Ukraine with about 10 tanks of this type.
Kyiv hopes to receive tanks in 2023.
Earlier last week, German Chancellor Olaf Schultz and US President Joe Biden agreed in a telephone conversation to send heavy military equipment to Kyiv.
Germany announced its readiness to supply Marder infantry fighting vehicles and Patriot air defense systems.
Last Friday, German government spokesman Steven Heppistreit said that it was about the delivery of about 40 Marder infantry fighting vehicles to Kyiv.
Russia has repeatedly warned Western countries that the pumping of weapons into Ukraine will lead to new destruction and prolong the war, and is not conducive to starting negotiations.
