Media: Japan is afraid "Painful Russian measures" distance "Sakhalin-2"

The Yomiuri newspaper, citing a source in the Japanese Foreign Ministry, wrote that Tokyo intends to protest Moscow’s decision to transfer the assets of the Sakhalin-2 oil and gas project to the ownership of the Russian Federation.

According to the newspaper, it is possible that Tokyo will take “tough measures” if the demands are made “in violation of the contract” concluded with the Japanese companies Mitsubishi and Mitsui, which invest in the Sakhalin-2 project.

She stressed that the Japanese government fears that after Sakhalin-2 the Russian side will take “painful measures” affecting the Sakhalin-1 project and the offshore fisheries agreements signed between Tokyo and Moscow.

Earlier, President Vladimir Putin issued a decree on the nationalization of Sakhalin Energy into the ownership of the Russian government in response to sanctions against Russia by unfriendly countries.
