Madrid Masters loses Djokovic as he withdraws from the tournament.

World number one Serb Novak Djokovic has withdrawn from the Madrid Masters tennis tournament, organizers said on Saturday.

The organizers of the tournament, through their official Instagram account, published a photo of the Serbian attached to the comment “Novak Djokovic cannot compete at the Madrid Open”, which starts on April 26.

Djokovic’s withdrawal, believed to be related to a problem he was suffering from in his elbow, was a blow to his preparation for the French Open (Roland Garros) starting next May.

The 35-year-old Serb suffered a surprise loss in straight sets to his compatriot Dusan Lajovic in the quarter-finals of the Luka Banja tournament in Bosnia on Friday.

Prior to this, the Italian Lorenzo Musetti prevented the return of the Serb to the stadiums after his forced absence from the tournaments in Indian Wells and Miami due to the lack of a vaccine against Covid-19, excluding him from the final price of the Monte Carlo tournament for April. 13.

Djokovic said before the tournament in Banja Luka that his elbow was “not in perfect condition”.

Thus, Djokovic joined the Spaniard Rafael Nadal, who shares the record for the most major tennis titles (22 titles each).
