French President Emmanuel Macron called on his people to prepare for great effort and sacrifice at a time when the world is undergoing great transformation and upheaval with the end of abundance.
Macron stressed to members of the government during the first cabinet after the end of the summer holidays, today, Wednesday, at the Elysee Palace, that “the moment we live (…) may seem organized by a series of crises, one more dangerous than the other,” referring to fires. Massive drought and bad weather, as well as the war in Ukraine and the COVID-19 pandemic.
He warned that the situation called for “effort” and “sacrifice” and said: “The battles we must fight are cultural, civil, but also technological and economic. We will only win them with our efforts, and no one will give us a gift.”
He indicated that in the face of this situation, “our citizens may react with great dismay”, urging members of the government to “say things” and “say names with great clarity and without intimidation.”
“I expect the government to respect what has been given to me and the commitment we have made to the nation,” he added.
This is not the first time the French president has warned his people, as Macron’s statements during his speech on the anniversary of the liberation of the south of France from the Nazis, his call for the French to “accept the price of freedom”, and his talk about the need to support Ukraine, angered the French, who commented on this with resentment and pain, against the background of the ongoing energy crisis and a sharp decline in living standards.
