Liz Truss: I’m not ready for direct British intervention in Ukraine

Candidate for the post of British Prime Minister, Foreign Secretary Liz Truss said she was not ready for direct British intervention in the conflict in Ukraine.

“I am not ready for the UK to directly intervene in the conflict,” Terras said during a debate with the second prime ministerial candidate, former finance minister Rishi Sunak, on Monday, when asked about the possibility of sending the British fleet to the Black Sea.

And she continued: “We have put a lot of effort into becoming the first European country to impose sanctions against Russia. We support (Ukraine) in the field of marine insurance to take grain out of Odessa after reaching an agreement, but Ukraine is not a member of NATO, and I consider it incorrect to use our capabilities or our funds “directly”.

In turn, Rishi Sunak declined to answer the same question, saying only that the UK will continue to support Ukraine “regardless of who becomes prime minister.”
