Liverpool took two painful blows ahead of Manchester City match

Liverpool head coach Jurgen Klopp has announced that goalkeeper Alisson Becker and striker Diogo Jota will not be able to take part in the Reds’ match against Manchester City in the Fed Shield Cup this weekend.

Alisson suffered an unspecified injury and has not played since Liverpool lost 4-0 to Manchester United in a friendly on 12 July.

The Brazilian goalkeeper is back in training but will not risk his scheduled match against Manchester City next Sunday to decide the 2022 English Community Shield Cup champion.

Klopp said in a press statement today Thursday: “Alison has been training more today than the day before so he will definitely be available to play Fulham”, referring to Liverpool’s first Premier League match on 6 August, and continued: not at the end of the week,” referring to the Manchester City match.

Diogo Jota could miss the start of the season.

The Portuguese striker suffered a hamstring injury and has not participated in Liverpool’s training camp in Austria this week.

“Diogo is not with us now, so how will he play in a football match? Unfortunately, this will take time,” Klopp said.

It should be noted that Liverpool are aiming to win the English Community Cup for the first time in the Klopp era.
