Lithuania again prevents the transit of goods to the Kaliningrad region

Today, on Monday, the Lithuanian bank “Ciaulai Bank” stopped transit (transit) payments in Russian rubles to Russian Kaliningrad.

In this context, the representative of the Association of Lithuanian Banks informed that settlements in all other currencies will be terminated from September 1, 2022.

Earlier, the European Union confirmed that banking operations related to the transit of goods from Russia to Kaliningrad do not violate Western sanctions against Moscow.

Brussels urged Vilnius to influence commercial banks to fulfill their obligations to Kaliningrad, but the Lithuanian authorities complained that they “cannot force banks to accept payments from Russia.”

And at the end of July last year, the governor of the Kaliningrad region, Anton Alikhanov, revealed the emergence of new threats to transit operations (transit) through Lithuania to this region.

Kaliningrad is a Russian province on the Baltic Sea, located between Poland in the south and Lithuania in the north and east, Russia usually supplies its province with goods and goods by land route through Lithuania.
