And the statement of the ministry, published today, on Sunday, says: “In connection with the sudden death of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus Vladimir Makei, on November 26, a decision was made to postpone the joint meeting of the delegations of the Foreign Ministries of Russia and Belarus and the working visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia Sergei Lavrov to Minsk, scheduled for November 27-28.

The statement added: “New dates for the visit and the joint meeting of the two delegations will be announced later.”

He noted that “Vladimir Vladimirovich Makei was a true friend of Russia, who made a rare contribution to the comprehensive construction of the Russian-Belarusian federal state, the comprehensive development of broad bilateral cooperation and the strengthening of contacts between the two fraternal peoples of Russia and Belarus.”

The statement said that Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov had sent a telegram to the wife of his late colleague expressing condolences to all his family and friends.
