Lavrov: US freezing countries’ assets is outright theft

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Moscow and Caracas agree that the United States freezing foreign assets of various countries is outright theft.

This became known during a joint press conference between Lavrov and his Venezuelan counterpart Carlos Faria after their talks in Moscow on Monday.

“We agreed that the US measures to freeze the assets of sovereign countries held in foreign accounts are not outright theft in the spirit of the Wild West, directed against regimes that they dislike, but also a blatant violation of the social and economic rights of citizens,” Lavrov said.

The Russian minister pointed out that Moscow and Caracas “know how serious Washington is in its attempts, which it is making so far, to undermine the foundations of the Venezuelan economy.”

He added: “But it is already clear that these plans will not come true,” noting that Russia will help Venezuela resist this kind of pressure, and stressed Russia’s readiness to support the efforts of the Venezuelan authorities to restore the situation inside the country. and bring it back to normal, as well as the readiness to continue cooperation with Caracas in the international arena.

For his part, the Venezuelan Foreign Minister confirmed that his government supports Moscow in conducting a special military operation in Ukraine.
