Latvian player ignores ban and gets to his Russian club

Latvian ice hockey goalie Jannis Kalnins arrived in the Russian city of Khabarovsk despite a ban imposed by the Latvian authorities.

In July, the Russian club Amur announced the signing of a contract with a 30-year-old goalkeeper, while the contract term with Kalins was not specified.

The deal was not approved by the Latvian Ice Hockey Federation, which bans athletes and coaches from participating in competitions held in Russia and Belarus.

In response, the Latvian federation banned the goalkeeper from participating with his country in international competitions.

Kalinins participated with the Latvian national team in four World Championships and the 2022 Olympic Games, which were held in Beijing.

Previously, Kalinins played for Dynamo Riga from Latvia and Jokerit Helsinki from Finland.
