The Kyodo news agency, citing sources in the Japanese government, reported that the authorities are seeking to maintain the share of Japanese companies in the Sakhalin-2 liquefaction project.
According to the agency, positions are currently being coordinated with Japanese companies participating in the project – Mitsui and Mitsubishi.
On Friday, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and Minister of Economy and Industry Koichi Hagiuda announced plans to continue participating in Sakhalin-2 during a telephone conversation.
At the same time, the agency noted that the preservation of the mentioned investments depends on the decision of the Russian side itself.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin issued a decree on the introduction of exceptional measures in the energy sector and the nationalization of the investment company Sakhalin Energy into the ownership of the Russian Federation in response to the sanctions of some countries against Russia.
Among these actions is the nationalization of Sakhalin Energy Limited Company into the ownership of the Russian Federation, as well as the creation by the state of a limited liability company, to which all the rights and obligations of a foreign company are transferred.
Gazprom Sakhalin Holding will receive a share in Sakhalin-2 in proportion to its share in Sakhalin Energy.
