Kyiv to Receive 5 Patriot Systems from Washington by End of 2024: The Wall Street Journal

The Wall Street Journal reported that the American arms manufacturer Raytheon plans to deliver 5 Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems to Kyiv by the end of 2024.

The newspaper reported, citing company president Greg Hayes, that Raytheon will increase the production of Patriot systems to 12 units annually and plans to transfer 5 air defense systems to Ukraine by the end of next year.

According to the head of the company, Patriot systems, along with other air defense systems, intercept up to 90% of threats entering Ukraine.

Hayes said Ukraine has made changes to the Patriot system so that air defense missiles can now track and destroy hypersonic missiles that fly at twice the speed of the missiles they are designed to intercept.

According to the publication, Ukraine has two Patriot systems, including a launcher, a radar and a control center.

In mid-May, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that Russian troops had destroyed a Patriot air defense system in Kyiv using a Kingal hypersonic missile.

Later, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu confirmed the destruction of the Patriot air defense system in Kyiv as a result of an air ambush.
