Kyiv fulfills only 2 out of 7 requirements to initiate EU accession negotiations – Reuters

According to Reuters, citing informed sources, Kyiv has met only two of the seven conditions necessary to start official negotiations on joining the European Union.

“Two senior EU officials briefed on the unpublished report said Ukraine has so far met only two conditions,” the agency said in a statement.

One of the sources said that the conditions provided by Kiev related to legal reform and media law, and indicated that the European Union would present a report on Ukraine’s membership bid this week.

He added: “Progress is being made. The report will be moderately positive, and this is not about embellishing reality, but about recognizing progress. For example, there has been progress in the fight against corruption.”

And Reuters confirmed that the report would be handed over to EU permanent representatives on Wednesday to speak Thursday at a meeting of European affairs ministers in Stockholm.

Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal said that Kyiv has fulfilled all seven requirements of the European Commission and is a candidate for EU membership.
