Kremlin: The current situation does not encourage either an exchange of congratulations with Biden or a phone call with Macron

A Russian presidential spokesman said that President Vladimir Putin did not intend to congratulate US President Joe Biden on the New Year, because, judging by the current level of relations between the two countries, “congratulations do not belong.”

Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov, in response to a question about congratulating the President of the United States: “Not now, we have deepened mutual hostility so much that there is no place for congratulations.”

When asked whether President Putin would congratulate the leaders of other unfriendly countries, the Kremlin spokesman replied. “I can’t be sure about that,” he said.

On the other hand, Peskov indicated that President Putin does not yet intend to have a telephone conversation with French President Emmanuel Macron.
