Kosovo delays license plate law for a month after US mediation

Authorities in the separatist province of Kosovo have announced a month-long postponement of the implementation of a law to replace car numbers and personal documents issued in Serbia, after an appeal to US Ambassador Jeffrey Hofiner.

The Kosovo authorities said in a statement that “the Government of the Republic of Kosovo strongly condemns the blockade of highways in northern Kosovo and the shooting of local armed men at the police.”

He added that “Prime Minister Albin Kurti, President of Kosovo Vuza Osmani and the Deputy Prime Minister held meetings with international representatives of the United States and Europe, at which the Government of Kosovo committed from Monday, August 1, 2022, to postpone the application of the vehicle license plate law. and personal documents issued in Serbia before September 1, 2022.”

“With barriers removed and freedom of movement restored in northern Kosovo, we thank our international partners, especially US Ambassador Jeffrey Hoveni, for their commitment and contributions,” she added.
