Klopp stands up for Mohamed Salah amid battle with ‘destroyer’ Haaland

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that the number of his star Mohamed Salah as the most successful player in a single season in the English Premier League will remain immortal in the memory of the fans even after it was destroyed by Erling Haaland.

Today, Friday, Haaland received the English Football Writers’ Association’s Player of the Year award for 2023 and also won the Premier League Player of the Month award for last April.

While 30-year-old Mohamed Salah has broken some important numbers, the latest being his fifth place on Liverpool’s all-time top scorers list with 186 goals, tied with Reds legend Steven Gerrard.

He added: “Salah will retire as one of the greatest players and he still has a few more years to shine and improve his numbers.”

And the German manager continued: “In my first season here, Leicester City achieved the league title in one of the exceptional stories. Now the situation is completely different and they are struggling to avoid relegation.”

He added: “I’m expecting a very difficult game against Leicester and we have to be ready for that. They need all the points they can get.”

And Klopp concluded: “Liverpool are still a big club and attractive to a lot of players and I have no doubt about it, but making deals seems more difficult if we’re not playing in the Champions League.”
