Kadyrov accepted the apology of Pope Francis

President of the Chechen Republic Ramzan Kadyrov announced the acceptance of Pope Francis’s apology for his offensive statement against the Chechens and Buryats, in which he accused them of “cruelty” during the Russian operation in Ukraine.

He added: “We are glad that they realized their mistake and apologized. We accepted the apology, but we say to everyone: beware of insulting our feelings, especially us Chechens.”

The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, said that she had received an apology from the Vatican for the Pope’s offensive remarks against Chechens and Buryats.

Zakharova indicated that Moscow hopes to continue constructive cooperation with the Vatican.

Pope Francis said that the most “cruelty” during the Russian operation in Ukraine was shown by non-Russian soldiers, led by Buryats and Chechens.
