Johnson to G7 leaders: Now is not the time to abandon Ukraine

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson urged G7 leaders not to “give up” on Ukraine, promising Kyiv new financial support.

“Ukraine can and will win, but for this it needs our support,” Johnson said on the eve of the G7 summit in the Bavarian Alps.

“Now is not the time to give up on Ukraine,” he added.

A statement from Johnson’s office said the UK was ready to provide £429 million ($525 million) in loan guarantees, warning that the Ukrainian government fears it will run out of cash by the fall if no new money is injected.

The pledge will bring total British financial and humanitarian assistance to Ukraine this year to about $1.8 billion.
