Johnson: I will not support any candidate for the leadership of the Conservative Party

Outgoing UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has said he is determined to fulfill his 2019 Conservative Party mandate over the past few weeks as party leader and refuses to support any challenger to the leadership.

Speaking to broadcasters for the first time since his resignation last week, Johnson said he would continue to “watch the process” until a new Conservative leader is elected in the coming weeks.

“I am determined to go ahead and fulfill the mandate given to us, but my job is just to observe the process over the next few weeks and I am sure that the result will be good,” he said, adding: “We just need to move forward, the more we focus on the people who elect us.” build, the less we talk about politics in Westminster, the happier we’ll all be in general.”

Asked which candidate he would support, Johnson said, “I don’t want to hurt any candidate’s chances by offering my support.”
