Japan regrets Beijing’s cancellation of Foreign Ministers’ Meeting

Japan’s Cabinet Secretary General Hirokazu Matsuno called Beijing’s decision to cancel the Japan-China foreign ministers’ meeting “deplorable.”

The Secretary General added at a press conference, “The meeting of the Japanese and Chinese foreign ministers on the sidelines of ASEAN was in the final stages of negotiation, but yesterday the Chinese side said it did not want to hold this meeting. and put forward the statement of the G7 countries on Taiwan as the reason … such actions on the Chinese side. Unfortunately, in a tense situation, the exchange of views is more important. Our country is always open to dialogue with China. “

On Thursday, the Chinese Foreign Ministry announced the cancellation of the planned meeting of the foreign ministers of China and Japan in Cambodia in connection with the statement of the “G7” (G7) on the situation in Taiwan.

The foreign ministers of the former G7 countries expressed the group’s concern about China’s “threatening” actions, especially military exercises, which could escalate tensions in the region. The ministers also said China’s reaction to US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan threatens to escalate tensions in the region.
