Aston Villa Football Club announced on Monday evening the appointment of Spaniard Unai Emery as the team’s new technical director, who will take over from Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard following his sacking last week.
Aston Villa said on their official Twitter account: “Aston Villa are delighted to announce the appointment of Unai Emery as the club’s new manager.”
Emery, 50, signed with Aston Villa following his departure as manager of La Liga club Villarreal, and the former Arsenal manager will take over from 1 November once the work permit process is completed.
On Thursday, Aston Villa announced the sacking of their manager Steven Gerrard after a poor start to the season and finished 17th in the league after 11 games.
“We would like to thank Steven for his hard work and dedication and wish him all the best for the future,” Villa said in a brief statement on their website.
Aston Villa have lost three times at Fulham Stadium in the match that brought them together last Thursday in Premier League Matchday 12, their second straight defeat and sixth of the season.
