Suárez began his coaching career in 2005 and has coached 13 clubs, most notably Deportivo Aves in the 2017–2018 season, with the remaining teams from second division clubs.
Suarez, who has been in charge of Gil Vicente since November 2020, will coach Al Ahli with a contract until 2023 and a €250,000 fine clause if he leaves.
Suarez led Vicente to qualify for the Conference League after finishing behind clubs Porto, Lisbon, Benfica and Braga in the Portuguese league last season.
Suarez prefers to play in a 4-3-3 formation and holds a UEFA Pro training license from the European Football Association.
