Al Ahly announced on its official website the signing of 47-year-old Suárez, coach of Gil Vicente, of the Portuguese fifth league last season, as technical director for two years and for the remaining matches of the current season.

Suarez, who has been in charge of Gil Vicente since November 2020, will coach Al Ahli with a contract until 2023 and a €250,000 fine clause if he leaves.

Suarez led Vicente to qualify for the Conference League after finishing behind clubs Porto, Lisbon, Benfica and Braga in the Portuguese league last season.

Suarez prefers to play in a 4-3-3 formation and holds a UEFA Pro training license from the European Football Association.
