It’s official.. AC Milan announce Maldini’s contract extension

Paolo Maldini will remain as technical director of his everlasting club AC Milan for two more seasons, according to what was announced on Friday by the Italian champions, who will soon be owned by investment fund Redbird.

“This contract highlights the importance of continuity for the club as we continue to grow and strengthen,” Milan said in a statement.

Maldini, 54, whose contract expired on June 30, will continue to work alongside sporting director Frederic Massara, who in turn extended his contract on Friday in recognition of the role he played with the former international defender in Milan’s return to real competition in the past. three years, which led to the championship title in the season for the first time since 2011.

The extension of Maldini, a legend who has played more than 900 games for Milan, during which he won the league title 7 times and the Champions League 5 times, is an initiative of the American investment fund Redbird, which will complete the acquisition of Lombardia next September in order to reassure the club’s supporters that continuity will be the basis of work and progress.

With Massara, Maldini was notable for a contract policy based on a mix of mostly free-of-contract veteran players and youngsters with strong development potential, such as France’s Theo Hernández, Pierre Calolo and Portugal’s Rafael Leão.

The extension of this pair will allow Milan to focus now on the process of strengthening their ranks for next season.
