Israel lowers travel recommendations for Istanbul

Today, Tuesday, the Israel National Security Agency’s Anti-Terrorism Authority announced that it has lowered the travel warning level for Istanbul and returned it to Level 3, which poses a moderate risk.

The commission stated that “as part of a joint Israeli-Turkish effort, several Iranian cells have been thwarted in order to persecute Israeli citizens in Istanbul. In particular, the Turkish security services discovered and arrested several Iranian terrorist cells that worked on the orders of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. and used Turkish citizens to attack Israeli citizens and arrest them.”

And she said that “these preventive operations have reduced the level of threat faced by Israeli citizens in Turkey,” calling for “consideration of travel to Turkey against the background of the possibility of Iran’s continued efforts to carry out terrorist operations in this arena in the future.”

Commenting on the decision, Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennet expressed “special thanks to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his people for their cooperation in preventing attacks against Israelis in Turkey.”
