"ISIS" Pakistani ambassador attacked in Kabul.

On Saturday, the terrorist organization ISIS claimed responsibility for the attack on the Pakistani embassy in Kabul, which Islamabad described as an “assassination attempt”.

On Friday, a security guard was wounded at the Pakistani embassy in the Afghan capital Kabul as a result of shelling.

In a statement posted on the website SITE, which specializes in monitoring jihadist groups, the Khorasan branch of ISIS said it “attacked a renegade Pakistani ambassador and his guards.”

Pakistani Prime Minister Shabaz Sharif condemned what he called an “assassination attempt” against the head of the Pakistani mission, calling for an investigation into the incident.

A Kabul police spokesman said a suspect was arrested and two small arms were confiscated after security forces broke into a nearby building.

Although Pakistan has not officially recognized the Taliban government, it has kept its embassy open after the Islamists returned to power in August 2021.

A Pakistani embassy official said that shots were fired from the outer wall of the embassy in the afternoon, noting that “the ambassador and all other members of the mission are safe.”

A spokesman for the Afghan Foreign Ministry strongly condemned this “failed attack”.

“The Islamic Emirate will never allow malicious elements to threaten the security of diplomatic missions in Kabul,” the statement said.

He added: “The security forces will conduct a serious investigation into this incident. Once the culprits are found, they will be punished in accordance with the law.”

Pakistan accuses neighboring Afghanistan of facilitating the activities of the Pakistani Taliban and allowing them to plan their attacks from Afghan territory, which Kabul has consistently denied.
