Iraqi Oil Announces Exports "Basra gas" First batch of semi-cooled gas

The Iraqi Oil Ministry announced that the Basra Gas Company has exported the first batch of semi-cooled liquefied natural gas through the port of Umm Qasr.

Company director Malcolm Mays said in a statement: “This is a historic moment recorded by the Basra Gas Company when the company exported the first batch of semi-refrigerated liquefied gas, which is a great achievement.”

He noted that this was “the result of hard and continuous work to achieve the strategic goal of rehabilitating the port of Umm Qasr and equipping it with the necessary refrigeration units for use in export operations.”

The director of the company added: “Today we can load and export both types of liquefied gas, compressed and semi-refrigerated, on board tankers.”

He stressed that the move “gives them flexibility and the ability to triple their exports worldwide via tankers.”

And he pointed out that the move to export gas would “double the amount exported per shipment,” adding that they “would have access to many of the world’s markets that deal exclusively in the supply of semi-cooled gas.”

It is noteworthy that since 2016, Iraq has become one of the countries exporting liquefied gas instead of importing it, which brought additional income to the economy.
